The first year of SyMoCADS is completed and on July 21. and 22. we returned to Forschungscampus Waischenfeld to look back, evaluate what we have accomplished so far, and plan our next steps. We had the great pleasure to get inspired by the excellent talks of our distinguished guests – Prof. Josep Miquel Jornet from Northeastern University, Boston, USA, Dr. Michael Tynnan Barros from University of Essex, UK, and Dr. Yansha Deng from King’s College London, UK, who is also our Mercator Fellow. Later, Timo Jakumeit and Dr. Maximilian Schäfer, who are SyMoCADS associates, gave very interesting insights into their research activities. Many thanks to all our speakers for their great presentations!

In addition, we used the retreat to work on our communication skills, laid the foundation for the SyMoCADS Dictionary to help us to understand each other better, developed ideas for our contribution to the Long Night of Sciences, which will take place at the FAU in October 2025, and reviewed and evaluated the status quo of the Research Data Management in the RTG. All in all, we had an exciting and very productive retreat that ended with the exploration of the Bing Cave with its amazing dripstone formations.
