„Zukunftsplausch – Der vernetzte Mensch“ at Deutsches Museum Nürnberg

On November 11, 2025, SyMoCADS‘ representatives participated in the Zukunftsplausch discussion event “Der vernetzte Mensch – Im Internet der Bio-Nano Dinge”, hosted by the Deutsches Museum Nürnberg and the FAU Competence Center for Interdisciplinary Science Reflection (ZIWIS). 

Prof. Robert Schober  and Dr. Maximilian Schäfer contributed their expertise in molecular and nanoscale communications to a lively discussion on the emerging Internet of Bio-Nano Things (IoBNT) — a vision where bio- and nanotechnological devices communicate inside the human body to monitor health, deliver drugs, and revolutionize medical diagnostics. Dr. Schäfer also moderated the discussion, guiding the interdisciplinary exchange between engineering, biotechnology, ethics, and law.

Additionally, the panel featured Prof. Kathrin Castiglione (Institute of Bioprocess Engineering, FAU) and Prof. Jens Kirchner (FAU / FH Dortmund). Together with Prof. Paulina Jo Pesch (Chair of Civil Law, Law of Digitalization, Data Protection, and Artificial Intelligence, FAU), the experts discussed the scientific, ethical, and societal implications of embedding communication technology within biological systems.

The event invited the public to reflect on this rapidly evolving research field, including its technological opportunities, ethical challenges, and impact on future society, offering a glimpse into a digital future that bridges engineering, biology, and humanity.
